NOVEL INTERIORS WAS FOUNDED ON THE BELIEF THAT A HOME SHOULD BE TIMELESS, BEAUTIFUL AND PRACTICAL WHILE TELLING THE STORY OF THOSE WHO LIVE THERE. YOUR HOME. YOUR STORY.
Since launching in 2015, Novel Interiors has accumulated extensive knowledge on a broad range of projects, from custom design-build homes, remodels, commercial projects, small room makeovers and everything in between. In early 2022 she transitioned her business to be almost all remote; no longer limited by geography, she creates unique spaces for clients nationwide. She provides clients not only with a detailed plan and presentation for their space, but also with 3D room renderings – even if she hasn’t been on location. Because she wants design to be affordable and available to everyone, in the spring of 2022, she’s creating free, budget-friendly designs that will be shoppable on Instagram and this site. Tammy’s passion and keen eye for design and her ability to tailor each project to her client’s desires while weaving in the signature Novel Interiors look results in a home that is a classic, beautiful and personalized retreat.
TAMMY SCHMIDT
DESIGNER & OWNER // Tammy’s passion for interior design took root in 2000 when she and her husband, Chris, bought their first home, an early 1900’s Federal-style. Together they embarked on remodeling. It was then that Tammy fell in love with the construction process and truly began her foray into the design world, making classic, beautiful decisions and implementing unique design elements that ultimately led to a tidy profit when they sold the completely remodeled property four years later. Hooked on the concept of remodeling and design, she and Chris purchased another home and repeated the process. Tammy became an avid student of the industry: reading, studying and honing her craft by redoing spaces for herself and for family and friends. In 2015 she transitioned from full-time novelist (she has six novels out and writes under her maiden name, Tamara Lyon) to business owner, founding Novel Interiors. She established her design firm with the fundamental belief that a home should not only be a beautiful sanctuary, but it should also tell the story of those who live there. Tammy’s strengths lie in her endless ideas & ingenuity, exceptional organization, dogged work ethic, affordable design solutions, vision and great sense of humor.
Tammy lives in Lake Geneva, WI with her husband, golden retriever, Macy, and two cats, Nitro Brew and Macchiato. Their son, Andy, lives in LA and is a music artist and producer. In her free time, she loves listening to her son’s music while going for long runs, sitting on her screen porch with her husband and friends, sipping wine and laughing, spoiling her animals and constantly coming up with project ideas for her already remodeled house, much to her husband’s dismay!
